A Kauai man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting a relative when she was in her teens.
Larry Cass Ragasa, 45, of Hanapepe, was found guilty of two counts of sexual assault in the first degree and one count of sexual assault in the fourth degree after a week-long jury trial in March.
Fifth Circuit Judge Kathleen N.A. Watanabe called the jury’s verdict just and handed down the sentence after hearing arguments from First Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Jennifer Winn and defense counsel Craig De Costa.
“This sentence should send a message that our office will do everything we can to protect the victims and survivors of child sexual assault in our community. These crimes strike at the very fabric of our community and cannot be ignored,” said Prosecuting Attorney Justin Kollar.
