A multi-generational Kauai family of five was displaced from their home on Puu Road in Kalaheo after a fire.
It broke out shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters from the Kalaheo station were first on scene and joined by personnel from the Hanapepe and Lihue stations, Rescue 3, and the on-duty Battalion Chief.
The fire was under control by 9:30 a.m. and contained to a bedroom and the living area of the single-story home. However, officials reported extensive smoke damage throughout the residence.
Fire investigators from KFD’s Fire Prevention Bureau also responded to the scene and estimate that the fire cause roughly $60,000 in damages to the structure and its contents.
Volunteers with the American Red Cross are assisting the family with their emergency needs.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
