Kamehameha Day celebration kicks off with statue lei draping

A beautiful sight on a holiday Friday afternoon as the King Kamehameha statue was draped with plumeria lei.

The annual tradition honors Hawaii’s first king.

It was the beginning of the holiday celebration, with Saturday being officially Kamehameha Day, complete with a floral parade and hoolaulea at Kapiolani Park.
