Keiki Talk: How to handle picky eaters

Every second Friday, we chat with psychologist Dr. Suzanne Gelb about children and the family.  Today’s Keiki Talk topic is: How to Handle Picky Eaters.

Dr. Gelb says she is often asked if children who are picky eaters grow out of this, or should parents try to improve the situation? “Many do outgrow it, but some don’t! You should be proactive, encourage your child to try new foods, and offer him or her choices.”

She says reasons for picky eating could include their upbringing, genetics, environmental influences, medical conditions, or more. If you’re frustrated, don’t bribe your kids to eat. Dr. Gelb says to add more variety to your dinner menu and eat together as a family.
