Aiea Loop Trail reopens after fallen tree triggered landslide

Aiea Loop Trail is back open.

The state closed the trail Tuesday after a fallen tree triggered a landslide that blocked part of the trail.

A hiker notified the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Division of State Parks of the landslide Tuesday morning.

The area had been experiencing heavy rains, officials said.

Trail-closed signs were placed at the trailhead in Keaiwa Heiau State Recreation Area.

Crews spent Wednesday and part of Thursday clearing the debris. The fallen tree did not directly affect the trail, officials said.

Aiea Loop Trail is 4.8-mile trail that runs along the ridge on the west side of Halawa Valley and offers views of the southern coastline of Oahu.
