Families gather for annual Father’s Day pancake breakfast

Dads and their families enjoyed a hearty morning meal Sunday at the Hawaii Kai Lions Club’s 43rd annual Father’s Day pancake breakfast at the Kaiser High School cafeteria.

One of the largest fundraisers on the island, club volunteers served over 3,500 breakfasts to help raise money to fund community projects in East Oahu.

Nelson Condes and his family have been regulars at the breakfast ever since his 15-year-old son Jalen was just a year old. “It’s the best time to spend some quality time with the family and I always look forward to it every year.”

Over a thousand of the breakfasts were takeout, according to Peggy Oyama, immediate past president of the club. By her count, about 10,000 pancakes were made from 540 lbs. of pancake mix and 7,500 eggs.

Oh, 10,000 sausage links were cooked and 50 gallons of coffee were made as well.
