Honolulu police report that arson may have caused a house fire in Kaaawa Saturday morning.
At 7:08 a.m., firefighters responded to the fire located at 51-676 Kamehameha Highway.
The first HFD unit arrived at 7:16 a.m. to find a two-story multi-residential structure with smoke and flames emanating from a truck in the garage.
The fire was fully extinguished by 7:42 a.m., resulting in major damage to the garage and part of the house. The truck appeared to be intentionally set on fire.
A man and woman were on the second floor at the time of the fire and were able to get out. They were treated by HFD personnel for smoke inhalation but refused treatment from EMS.
A family of five were also inside on the first floor at the time of the fire and were able to get out safely. The family included an adult male and female, and three juveniles.
No injuries were reported and the American Red Cross was notified for all occupants.
Damage estimates are not available at this time. The fire is currently under investigation and the cause has yet to be determined.
