The motorist who died in a crash early Sunday morning on Farrington Highway has been identified.
He was Lawrence Lucero, 35, of Waianae.
The call came in at 2 a.m. of the incident near Alii Nui Drive.
The vehicle was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed when it went out of control, on to a grass embankment and crashed into a coconut tree.
Lucero was pronounced dead at the scene.
It is unknown whether alcohol was also a factor in the crash.
Lucero’s death marks the 22nd traffic fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 27 the same time last year.
