Suspect charged with arson in Waipahu fire

Honolulu police have charged a suspect with arson in a residence fire in Waipahu Friday morning.

At around 7:30 a.m. on June 24, 21-year-old Mark Rivera allegedly started a fire in the house that caused minor injuries to a 17-year-old female.

He fled and was later located by a police patrol and arrested.

What was originally opened as a case of attempted murder was changed when Rivera was charged only with arson in the 4th degree Sunday.

He is in police custody and bail has been set at $2,000.
