Honolulu firefighters responded to a building fire located at Hiki Street Tuesday morning.
The first HFD unit arrived at 8:05 a.m. to find light smoke emanating from the attic of a two-story, multiple-family home. It was determined that there was a fire within the attic space near an incoming electrical service line for the structure.
HFD battalion chief John Bowers said the service line “short circuited inside the roof, inside the ceiling, so we had to pull the ceiling down.”
The fire was brought under control by 8:09 a.m. and was fully extinguished by 8:28 a.m.
Three people were home at the time of the fire and they were alerted by the smell of smoke and were able to escape without injury.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and the damage estimate is $10,000.
