A retired Honolulu police officer pleaded guilty to second-degree assault after his gun went off in a bar.
Anson Kimura pleaded guilty as charged in court on Monday, Aug. 8.
The incident occurred in April 2015 at a bar on King Street. He was off duty at the time.
The bullet hit a 40-year-old woman in the abdomen. She was hospitalized in critical condition.
The Honolulu Police Department called it an accidental discharge.
Kimura retired from the department the following month, in May 2015.
According to court documents, Kimura did “recklessly cause serious bodily injury,” which led to a second-degree assault charge.
He was arrested by state sheriffs on July 5 and released after posting $5,000 bail.
Kimura is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 19.
