Hawaii Island firefighters are battling a suspicious 10-acre brush fire in Kona that first began Saturday morning.
The fire was reported around 11:35 a.m., and was located in a lightly brushed area just 300 feet from the Lokahi Apartments on Kakahiaka Street, but no homes were not threatened.
The location of the fire is inaccessible by foot, so two of the fire department’s helicopters did water drops to douse the blaze, which is 75 percent contained as of Saturday evening.
Firefighters have called the brush fire suspicious in nature.
Crews will be monitoring it overnight and will work to build firebreak.
The cause is under investigation.
