Hawaii residents reflect on Republican National Convention

The Republican National Convention wrapped up Thursday evening with presidential nominee Donald Trump declaring America in crisis.

In his acceptance speech, he pledged to restore safety and curb immigration.

Among those in the arena were Hawaii Republican Party chairman Fritz Rohlfing and Hawaii Pacific University professor and KHON2 political analyst John Hart.

Both say Trump remained true to the theme he stuck with throughout the primaries.

“I think he did a good job of explaining exactly where she’s headed and what his arguments and his points are for for the reason that he should be president and not Hillary Clinton,” Rohlfing said.

“As we left the arena, coincidentally, the song that they chose to play was the Rolling Stones’ ‘You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you might find you get what you need.’ Maybe for the Republican party, that’s what they got this evening,” Hart said.

The Democratic National Convention starts Monday in Philadelphia.
