Victim’s mother takes the stand in Maui murder trial

Kimberlyn Scott

The murder trial for Steven Capobianco resumed Tuesday on Maui.

Capobianco is accused of killing his ex-girlfriend, Carly “Charli” Scott. She was 27 years old and five months pregnant when she was reported missing in February 2014.

Scott’s mother, Kimberlyn Scott, testified on Tuesday.

She told jurors that her daughter and Capobianco were never affectionate with each other, but was excited when Scott told her she was pregnant with Capobianco’s child.

Kimberlyn: My daughters were laughing at me because I started crying.

Attorney: Why were you crying?

Kimberlyn: Because I was just told I was going to be a grandmother.

Attorney: How did that made you feel?

Kimberlyn: Um, just happy. Just glad for her. Glad to know that hings were shifting appropriately. I had teased them for being old, and having all my friends have grandkids, but not me yet.

Kimberlyn Scott is expected to return to the witness stand Wednesday for cross-examination.

Proceedings were called off Monday due to Capobianco being sick.
