A former Oahu man has been sentenced for stealing a spear that was stolen from the King Kamehameha statue in Hilo.

William Roy Carroll III, 31, who has no permanent address, was sentenced to five years in prison Wednesday.

The tip of the spear was reported missing last September.

Police found the spear a few days later in a channel behind the statue, and Carroll was eventually arrested.
