Honolulu firefighters are responding to a two-alarm fire in Waikiki.
The initial alarm came in at around 7:14 p.m. at Discovery Bay, a 40-story residential high-rise on Ala Moana Boulevard.
Nine fire companies with 34 personnel responded.
Firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames emanating from an 11th-floor unit.
The fire was called under control by 7:31 p.m. and extinguished shortly after.
One person was home at the time of the fire. Fire officials say he heard popping noises, saw the flames, and was able to escape without injury.
The building’s fire alarm system was activated and residents were in the process of evacuating prior to the arrival of the HFD. No one was hurt.
Firefighters offered to contact the American Red Cross, but he declined.
Residents were allowed to go back inside at around 8:30 p.m.
