UFC Hall of Famer, Hilo’s BJ Penn’s return from retirement has once again been given a green light, and ranked opponent is awaiting him.
Penn will face No. 4 ranked featherweight Ricardo Lamas in the main event for the UFC’s Fight Night in Manila, Philippines on Saturday, October 15th.
UFC officials announced the new bout early Monday morning.
Penn has faced a long road back to the Octagon since announcing that he would be returning to the octagon.
The Prodigy was originally scheduled to return in June at UFC 199, but he instead faced a six-month suspension after taking an IV above the allowed limit ahead of his fight, which was a violation of the UFC’s anti-doping policy.
With his suspension coming to an end, Penn is now ready to resume his career in October in a very tough test as he competes for the first time since July 2014.
Lamas, a former number-1 contender in the division, who has gone 3-2 in last five fights is looking to recover from his last fight where he fell to Waianae’s Max Holloway at UFC 199.
Lamas vs. Penn is the first confirmed bout for the UFC card taking place in the Philippines on October 15 with more fights expected to be announced shortly.
