A 49-year-old moped rider who was hospitalized in critical condition Monday after a crash has died.
The crash occurred just before 6 p.m. on Sand Island Access Road, and involved a semi-trailer truck.
Police say both vehicles were traveling eastbound when they collided.
Police initially shut down the inbound lanes of the road at Auiki Street, then switched over to a contraflow at around 8:30 p.m. The road was reopened by 9:45 p.m.
The moped rider, identified by the Honolulu medical examiner as Shane Botelho of Honolulu, was pronounced dead Tuesday.
The investigation is ongoing.
This is the 35th traffic fatality on Oahu compared to 32 at this same time last year.
