Just three days away from their season opener against fourth ranked Wisconsin, the sixth ranked University of Hawaii Women’s Volleyball team was delivered a devastating blow as it was announced that Senior Opposite Hitter Nikki Taylor has been listed out for the season opening tournament this weekend due to an injury.
The reigning Big West Conference Player of the Year and All-American suffered a left elbow injury in this past weekend’s scrimmage at the Stan Sheriff Center, leaving her as week to week according to UH officials.
Taylor, who missed the first seven matches of the 2014 season with an injury to her right elbow joins another starter, Middleblocker Annie Michem on the sideline this weekend after she broke her left pinkie on the first day of training camp on August 9th. She is expected to miss a month of action.
The injuries will likely force Outside Hitter Casey Castillo to play in the middle, while setter Kendra Koelsch will see time at Opposite Hitter.
The Rainbow Wahine will host Wisconsin on Friday and Kansas State on Saturday with both matches starting at 7:00pm, with a tournament closing match against Arizona scheduled for Sunday at 5:00pm.
