Opening on August 25, 2016, International Market Place will create a retail, dining and entertainment destination, attracting residents and visitors alike.
The re-imagined International Market Place will feature shopping in an open air environment and opportunities to experience a unique “Hawaiian Sense of Place” through the celebration of the history and culture of Waikīkī and its people. Water features and Hawaiian landscaping, including an iconic banyan tree, will be featured throughout the center and a grand lanai will offer a varied selection of outdoor dining venues under the stars.
The anchor tenant for the Marketplace is Saks Fifth Avenue. It will be the only luxury department store in Waikiki.
The Grand Lanai will feature a handful of restaurants being opened by world famous chefs.
The International Market Place is right in the heart of Waikiki. With tens of thousands of visitors walking down Kalakaua Avenue on a daily basis. But the Marketplace can also be accessed via Kuhio Avenue.
There will be a media tour later this morning, and the Marketplace will be open to the public starting tomorrow.
While much of this is new the designers did keep an eye an acknowledgement of the past. With much of the center built around or on top of the 130 year old banyan tree, that is listed as an exceptional tree by the state.
