Honolulu: 9th most expensive rental market in U.S.

According to a national rent report, the median one-bedroom rent price decreased in all but one of the top ten U.S. rental markets, with Honolulu ranked the 9th most expensive in the country.

The report from Zumper, an apartment search website, covers 100 cities nationwide.

The top 10 breakdown:

  1. San Francisco $3,440
  2. New York $3,130
  3. Boston $2,220
  4. Washington, D.C. $2,200
  5. San Jose $2,140
  6. Oakland $2,120
  7. Los Angeles $1,920
  8. Miami $1,800
  9. Honolulu $1,760
  10. Chicago $1,750

Analysis from the Zumper National Rent Index suggests that the decline in rent prices is consistent with trends across the United States.

For the first time this year to date, the national median price of both one and two bedroom units decreased. One-bedrooms dropped 0.8 percent to a national median price of $1,146, while the two-bedrooms dropped 1 percent to a median price of $1,358.
