Hail was seen falling in the Volcano area of Hawaii Island Tuesday.
Because of the rain most of the islands have experienced over the last couple of days, weather anchor Justin Cruz said that “Thunderstorms can produce strong updrafts of wind that bring water droplets high into the atmosphere. If the water droplet freezes, the frozen water particle may still be too light to fall back to earth.
“While suspended in air, the frozen water droplet or hailstone, can acquire more layers of water freezing on to it. The hailstone eventually becomes heavy enough to fall back to earth due to gravity.
