Despite the rainy weather, some folks decided to go hiking Wednesday, including a woman who got lost while hiking on a trail in Kaneohe.

The Honolulu Fire Dept. got a call of a hiker in distress on the Likelike trail at 2 p.m. She was not injured but just got disoriented during the hike. She did have a working cell phone with her and was able to communicate with rescuers.

The hiker, a 31-year-old woman, was about a quarter of the way up the trail, and about an hour later, she was walked out muddy but safe, accompanied by firefighters.

When asked that despite the rain and uncertain weather conditions if it was still OK to go hiking, Sanchez said “probably no. If you were going to go and enjoy the outdoors, that’s fine, but prepare — check the weather report, make sure you have enough adequate clothing, food and be prepared for a hike.”

And at 2 p.m. today, another solo hiker had to be rescued, this time in Pupukea. The lost hiker, a 23-year-old woman, called around 2 p.m. from the Kaunala Loop Trail. She was located around 4 p.m. and had to be airlifted from the trail. There were no reported injuries.
