A man was found unresponsive in waters off of south Maui on the beach fronting the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall on Uluniu Road.

It happened just before 4 p.m. Friday.

The 68-year-old man who is a part-time Kihei resident from Toronto, Canada got separated from his board after he fell while windsurfing. His family member went to meet him further down the shoreline fronting the VFW hall and saw him floating face down about 70 yards from shore. A good Samaritan went out and brought him back to shore. Other people started CPR on him. Police officers, fire fighters and EMS continued the CPR. He was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition.
