A crash on Kauai’s Kaumualii Highway in Kaumakani was closed for several hours following a crash early Saturday morning that left a Kekaha man in critical condition.
Kauai county officials say, according to a preliminary investigation, at approximately 2:40 a.m., a Mazda sedan was heading east on the highway, when it apparently crossed the center line and struck an oncoming Toyota sedan head-on.
The 36-year-old Kekaha male occupant of the Toyota sedan was initially transported to Wilcox Hospital. He was then medevaced to Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu where he remains in critical condition.
The 39-year-old male driver of the Mazda and his 47-year-old female passenger, both from Kaumakani, were also transported to Wilcox Hospital with serious injuries.
Police closed the highway in both directions until approximately 6:45 a.m. Saturday while traffic investigators conducted an on-scene investigation.
