Honolulu is considered one of the top 20 “most fun” cities in the country.

The personal-finance website WalletHub has released its findings for 2016’s Most Fun Cities in America and Honolulu is ranked number 16 overall, and 4th in the entertainment and recreation category, bested only by Orlando, Salt Lake City and Las Vegas.

To help Americans find the cities with the greatest number and variety of cheap, fun activities, the website compared the 150 largest cities across 51 key metrics, ranging from “number of fitness clubs per capita” to “movie costs” to “average open hours of breweries.”

However, “cheap” isn’t one of Hawaii’s strengths with a ranking of 136 out of the 150 cities surveyed.

Honolulu has the distinction of having the most festivals per 100,000 residents, 41.72, topping San Francisco, Orlando, Tampa, and New Orleans.

The number-1 ranked “fun city” is, not surprisingly, Las Vegas, which has the most clubs per 100,000 residents, 23.60.

The listing:

  1. Las Vegas
  2. Tampa
  3. Orlando
  4. Portland
  5. Miami
  6. Tempe
  7. New Orleans
  8. Pittsburgh
  9. Salt Lake City

Data used to create these rankings were obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau, The Trust for Public Land, Council for Community and Economic Research, Numbeo, Kayak, Golf.com, TripAdvisor, Yelp, Thumbtack, Eventbrite and WalletHub research.
