The Kmart store in Waikele will close in mid-December.
Sears Holdings Corporation confirmed Monday that “the difficult, but necessary decision” was made.
The corporation reports that the Waikele store will begin its liquidation sale on Thursday, Sept. 22.
“We have been strategically and aggressively evaluating our store space and productivity, and have accelerated the closing of unprofitable stores as previously announced,” the statement read.
The number of employees at the store is not publicly available. Those that are eligible will receive severance and have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area stores. Most are part time/hourly employees.
