Maui man accused of taking money at bank turns himself in

Maui police say a man allegedly seen on a bank surveillance camera taking money that belonged to another customer has turned himself in.

At approximately 1:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 24, police say the man entered American Savings Bank in Pukalani and removed an envelope containing $1,400 in cash belonging to another customer from the customer service counter within the bank.

Surveillance video shows a man removing the envelope and then conducting a teller transaction within the bank prior to leaving the area.

Police say he turned himself in on Tuesday, Sept. 20.

The investigation is classified as second-degree theft.
