Rice dishes from around the world could be found and eaten right on the street fronting Ward Center Sunday at the 7th annual Rice Fest.
The event teamed up with Eat the Street on Auahi Street.
There were food demonstrations, live entertainment, celebrity and chef cooking competitions – our own Kelly Simek participated — and Spam musubi and poke bowl eating contests.
Also at the fest was chef Adam Tabura, a previous winner of the Food Network’s “Great Food Truck Race,” who just came out with a cookbook called “Filipino Kitchen.” He was passing out Spam fries and Spam-LTs.
In addition to celebrating the tiny white grain, the Rice Fest aimed to raise awareness for Lanakila Meals on Wheels, which serves Hawaii’s seniors. The non-profit was accepting monetary and rice donations at the fest.
