State auctions off old fire boat at Honolulu Harbor

Moku Ahi

A boat that was previously used to fight fires on the water is now up for grabs.

Moku Ahi is owned by the state, but operated and maintained by the city.

It has been sitting idle at Honolulu Harbor’s Pier 15 since October 2013, after a leak was discovered in the boat’s hull, and was officially taken out of service the following year.

Now, the Department of Transportation is holding a public auction for the 110-foot steel vessel.

Sealed bids must be delivered in person to the Oahu Harbor District office at 700 Fort Street, Pier 11 Gallery, Honolulu, HI 96813, no later than Friday, Nov. 4, at 2 p.m.

The boat will be sold as-is, and the buyer is responsible for removing the boat from the harbor.

Information packets can be requested in writing or in person between 7:45 a.m. and 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the Oahu Harbor District office or by emailing Jeffrey Prather at
