More than three years after the Wahiawa Skate Park was demolished due to safety concerns, community partners came together last weekend and rebuilt the facility.
More than 30 community members volunteered on Saturday and Sunday to transform the empty concrete slab at Wahiawa District Park into a new skate park. The equipment and installation cost about $68,000 and was made possible by Community Development Block Grant funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development through the Wahiawa Community Based Development Organization.
Wahiawa resident and skater Brennan Leong and his father, Mike, led a community effort to reopen the park.
IPR Hawaii was contracted to purchase the equipment and manage the installation.
