Hawaii man arrested on charges of rape, sodomy in Oregon investigation

A University of Hawaii student will be extradited back to Oregon after appearing in court Thursday.

He is being held in lieu of $520,000 bail.

Honolulu police arrested Kasen Kunishima-Takushi, 20, Tuesday afternoon on an extradition warrant.

Authorities in Oregon confirm he was indicted by a grand jury on two counts each of first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy.

They say the investigation stems from multiple alleged incidents that occurred while Kunishima-Takushi was a student at Pacific University.

Forest Grove police said the rapes were reported in November 2015.

According to a Pacific University spokesman, “Kasen Kunishima Takushi was a student at Pacific University for the 2014-15 academic year and the first two months of the 2015-16 academic year. Pacific University respects the legal process and, as such, refrains from making statements related to active criminal matters.”

Kunishima-Takushi was a former cornerback for Pacific University’s football program and is listed on the 2014 roster. It’s unclear if he was on the team when the alleged crimes took place.

Oregon authorities now have 30 days to take custody of Kunishima-Takushi.
