A Kapaa man is in police custody after he allegedly shot his roommate early Sunday morning.
Jeffrey S. Simpson, 57, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder and two counts of reckless endangering.
His bail is set at $1 million.
Police say officers were called to a home on Kamalu Road in Wailua Homesteads shortly after midnight, after residents heard shots fired.
Police found the victim, a 52-year-old Kapaa man, lying on the floor of his bedroom with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim lives in the home with several adult roommates including Simpson, who was identified as the suspect. He was not home at the time.
By Sunday afternoon, Simpson made contact with police and arranged to turn himself in.
He was booked at the Lihue police station at approximately 1:55 p.m. He is expected to be arraigned in court on Wednesday.
The victim was initially transported by medics to Wilcox Medical Center, then later medevaced to Queen’s Medical Center in serious but stable condition.
The incident remains under investigation.
