Hawaiian Electric has restored power to 11,300 customers after a generator unexpectedly went offline.

It happened at around 8 p.m. The generator belongs to AES, an independent plant that supplies power to HECO.

After it went offline, power was automatically cut off to some customers in order to balance the grid and prevent damage to the system.

Residents in Iwilei, Kakaako, Pauoa, Waipahu, and Waialua were affected, and pocket outages may have occurred in other neighborhoods.

HECO’s reserve generators kicked in, and all customers regained power by 8:30 p.m.
