The team behind the popular downtown Honolulu restaurant The Pig & The Lady is ready to debut a second restaurant.
Piggy Smalls will officially open this Friday, Oct. 14, at Ward Centre, in the space formerly occupied by Kua Aina Burger.
“We wanted Piggy Smalls to have a younger and more casual feel, more like if The Pig & The Lady had a younger brother,” said executive chef Andrew Le.
The menu, created by Le and chef de cuisine Brandon Lee, draws inspiration from Europe, North Africa, America, and Southeast Asia — such as scallion arepa inspired by Chinese scallion pancakes, a fresh Moroccan twist on a green papaya salad, farmer’s goulash, and pho-strami dip banh mi. There will also be desserts by pastry chef Gino Ojano, soft-serve, a new weekly slushie program, and a bar menu curated by Kyle Reutner.
Local lettering and graphic artist Matthew Tapia and tattoo artist Steven Lam of Working Class Tattoo created the restaurant’s large feature mural. Maura Fujihira of Fishcake designed the pet-friendly outdoor seating area, which is furnished with mango wood tables by Mana Ai’s Daniel Anthony.
Piggy Smalls will be open Mondays through Saturdays, 11 a.m.-10 p.m., and Sundays, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
