It’s not an election year for Hawaii’s governor, but the Farrington Governors are making their case for control over the OIA’s Division I.
Farrington (7-2) fended off the Campbell Sabers (5-4), 25-7 to punch their ticket into the new Open Division State Tournament. In the process, the Govs also jump to No. 6 in the latest Cover2/GEICO Division I Power Poll.
The kids from Kalihi will face No. 4 Kapolei (7-1) in the OIA D-I Playoffs semifinals. The Hurricanes (8-1) are coming off a 49-9 victory over Moanalua (5-5).
Also tied at the No. 6 spot are the Baldwin Bears (6-2) from The Valley Isle. Baldwin earned their seventh-straight victory after beating MIL D-II foe Lahainaluna (5-4), 19-13.
This Friday night, No. 2 Punahou (6-1) and No. 3 Saint Louis (6-1) will battle it out for the third time this season in a rubber match for the ILH Division I crown. Both teams have already secured births into the new Open Division state tournament.
In the Cover2/GEICO Division II Power Poll, Konawaena earned a season-high 16 first-place votes as they remain atop the latest rankings for the second consecutive week. The Wildcats (7-1) took a trip east to Kea’au (2-5) this weekend, beating the Cougars 38-8.
No. 2 Saint Francis (5-2) took care of Pac-Five (2-5) in the first round of the ILH D-II playoffs, blanking the Wolfpack 30-0. The Saints advance to take on No. 4 Damien (5-2) with the winner taking the ILH Division II Championship and securing a spot in the D-II State Tournament.
