On the campaign trail, Farrington Governors ranked 6th in Cover2 Power Poll

It’s not an election year for Hawaii’s governor, but the Farrington Governors are making their case for control over the OIA’s Division I.

Farrington (7-2) fended off the Campbell Sabers (5-4), 25-7 to punch their ticket into the new Open Division State Tournament. In the process, the Govs also jump to No. 6 in the latest Cover2/GEICO Division I Power Poll.

The kids from Kalihi will face No. 4 Kapolei (7-1) in the OIA D-I Playoffs semifinals. The Hurricanes (8-1) are coming off a 49-9 victory over Moanalua (5-5).

Also tied at the No. 6 spot are the Baldwin Bears (6-2) from The Valley Isle. Baldwin earned their seventh-straight victory after beating MIL D-II foe Lahainaluna (5-4), 19-13.

Kahuku FootballThe rest of the top five remains the same with Kahuku (7-1) still on top after beating Leilehua (4-6), 63-0.

This Friday night, No. 2 Punahou (6-1) and No. 3 Saint Louis (6-1) will battle it out for the third time this season in a rubber match for the ILH Division I crown. Both teams have already secured births into the new Open Division state tournament.

In the Cover2/GEICO Division II Power Poll, Konawaena earned a season-high 16 first-place votes as they remain atop the latest rankings for the second consecutive week. The Wildcats (7-1) took a trip east to Kea’au (2-5) this weekend, beating the Cougars 38-8.

No. 2 Saint Francis (5-2) took care of Pac-Five (2-5) in the first round of the ILH D-II playoffs, blanking the Wolfpack 30-0. The Saints advance to take on No. 4 Damien (5-2) with the winner taking the ILH Division II Championship and securing a spot in the D-II State Tournament.

Waipahu (7-1) also makes their return to the top five, replacing Lahainaluna at the No. 5 spot after the Lunas’ aforementioned loss to Baldwin.
