We’ve learned some Oahu residents may have been charged twice for their online motor vehicle payments.
We started looking into the issue after a viewer told us they were billed twice for their vehicle registration fee.
Department of Customer Services director Sherilyn Kajiwara responded in a statement:
AUTHORIZE.NET handles online motor vehicle payments for the city’s Department of Customer Services and this is a nationwide issue.
The company has acknowledged a problem regarding a processing error on a variety of payments made on September 22, 2016. Five hundred (500) customers nationwide were double billed on October 17, 2016.
Customers who may have experienced a double charge are asked to call AUTHORIZE.NET at 877-447-3938. The phone line currently has a recording accepting responsibility for the issue.
It’s not clear exactly how many of the affected customers are on Oahu.
