A hiker reported missing in Kau was found Friday morning.
The person was found at 10:20 a.m. halfway down a waterfall. A Hawaii County fire helicopter transported the hiker to paramedics waiting on Kaalaiki Road. The patient was then transferred to Kau Hospital’s emergency room.
This was part of a search effort that resumed at daybreak Friday.
The hiker was first reported missing somewhere in the forest reserve off of Kaalaiki Road at 2:36 p.m. Thursday.
The active search throughout the day was later postponed when night fell.
The description of the area is “dense forest with thick canopy, severe landscape with high embankment rivers and waterfalls (with) poor visibility from air and ground.”
