Judge denies road rage suspect’s release to medical facility

Mark Char

An Oahu judge denied Monday a request to have the suspect in a violent road rage incident released from custody.

Mark Char is charged with attempted murder and assault for allegedly stabbing three people on the H-1 Freeway back in August.

He remains in custody, unable to post $2 million bail.

Char was not present in court when his attorney requested that he be released to a nursing home for medical care.

“The purpose of the motion that I brought was my client needs adequate medical care and it would be best served in another facility, so we were asking for a transfer to that facility,” said Shawn Luiz, Char’s attorney. “We don’t have the exact details of what the causes of the current situation are, but I do not believe that he was in very good condition, even at the initial court appearances.”

The judge denied the motion, however Luiz says he will refile another request with medical information.

Char is scheduled to go to trial on Dec. 19.
