IRVINE, Calif. – The Hawai’i women’s soccer team came up short in its effort to earn a Big West Conference Tournament bid, falling 2-1 at UC Irvine on Friday. The loss eliminates the Rainbow Wahine from contention for one of four conference tournament bids.

UC Irvine (13-5-1, 5-1-1 BWC) took a 1-0 lead almost immediately when Jessica Miclat scored just 37 seconds into the game. The lead lasted less than 10 minutes, however, as Hawai’i (9-5-2, 2-4-1 BWC) sophomore Raisa Strom-Okimoto netted her sixth goal of the season in the 11th minute to knot the score.

The score remained 1-1 into the second half until UC Irvine’s Kelsey Texeira scored the eventual game-winner in the 59th minute.

Each team finished with 12 shots in the game, with the Anteaters taking a slim 9-7 edge in shots on goal. UCI also had a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.

Strom-Okimoto had three shots in the game for Hawai’i, while senior Addie Steiner had a team-high four, all of which were on goal. Monk Berger finished with seven saves for Hawai’i.

The Rainbow Wahine will wrap up the 2016 campaign at CSUN on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. HT.
