Drivers encountered major traffic on Pali Highway Tuesday after two separate crashes shut down portions of the road.
The first occurred at around 9:25 a.m. on the Kalihi side of the tunnels when one vehicle reportedly rear-ended another.
Accordinig to Emergency Medical Services, the occupants of the vehicle that was rear-ended were treated and transported to the hospital.
The 67-year-old male driver and 53-year-old female passenger were hospitalized in serious condition, while a 35-year-old woman and 11-month-old girl were listed in stable condition. The driver of the other vehicle was not treated by EMS.
Police shut down all Honolulu-bound lanes between Kamehameha Highway in Windward Oahu and Nuuanu Pali Drive until just after 11 a.m.
A second crash was reported at around 10:35 a.m. in the Kailua-bound lanes near the hairpin turn, which also prompted police to shut down lanes.
A 54-year-old woman complained of chest injuries and was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
A 51-year-old man and two women, ages 45 and 53, were treated for minor injuries and refused transport to the hospital.
