A fundraising event only for thrill-seekers was held in Waikiki on Saturday.

It’s called “Over the Edge,” where participants rappel down 40 stories from the rooftop of the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa.

The goal was to raise money for Special Olympics Hawaii.

“Special Olympics Hawaii serves over 3,700 local children and adults with intellectual disabilities,” explained director of development Tracey Bender. “So we are able to provide sports training and competitions and are absolutely free for our athletes.”

Bender said the event was absolutely sold out and that Special Olympics Hawaii met their fundraising goal of $130,000.

KHON2’s Wake Up 2Day weather anchor Kelly Simek was one of the more than 100 that went over the edge.
