Dozens of Hawaii’s student-athletes made their official collegiate commitments Wednesday.
Education-1st hosted a National Letter of Intent Signing Day event at the Elks Lodge in Waikiki.
Among them were former Little League teammates, Campbell High School’s Jocelyn Alo and Markus Ramos, who signed with the University of Oklahoma and University of Oregon respectively.
“It’s really cool, sitting next to Markus. Like, I played with him, I was his catcher. Oh my gosh, all those dirt balls he used to throw me,” Alo said with a laugh. “But yeah, it’s so good to see that we’re both succeeding now, and on to bigger and better things. I’m excited for both of us.”
“That girl, she used to be like, she still is awesome, awesome ball player. She can hit the ball farther than all the baseball boys, because she’s awesome,” Ramos said.
As for the signing itself, “It feels amazing. It still, can’t believe it happened, but it happened and it’s awesome. I love it. Just to see all the talent on the first signing day, all the talent here and everybody that signed, it’s good to see all these people here,” Ramos said.
Wednesday’s event did not include athletes in football, soccer, or men’s water polo. They’ll have a separate signing next February.
