Veterans Day is on Friday, but some veterans received an early honor Wednesday from the University of Hawaii.
13 student veterans were awarded scholarships to help further their nursing education at UH.
The veterans were especially recognized for their choice in choosing a career path that helped others after already doing so much to help our country.
“They are willing to put the needs of others above themselves. It is at that day that they begin to transform to something bigger and ultimately something better,” Jared Lyon of Student Veterans of America.
Student veterans received between $2,500 and $5,000 in scholarship money each.
