Firefighters battle Waianae Valley brush fire

Honolulu firefighters have controlled a brush fire that burned a mountain ridge in Waianae Valley on Sunday.

The call came in at 12:10 p.m. The blaze was located in an area near Piliuka Place and Kawiwi Way.

units with 27 personnel took part in the firefight.

An Air One helicopter is involved to water drops on hotspots inaccessible to firefighters.

The fire department says about 7 acres have burned and was deemed under control at 3:30 p.m.

Crews were cleared to leave scene by around 7:40 p.m., but later that night the Honolulu Fire Dept. was called to investigate a possible flare-up a little before 10 p.m.
