One day after a brush fire broke out in Kalaeloa, firefighters were able to access the area and survey the damage.

One hundred acres burned, some of which belonged to a local business.

Bob Kahana, co-owner of Hawaii Extreme Paintball, says a dog did not survive the fire, and nearly three acres of the property burned down.

When we got there, his grandson was using a hose to put out hot spots.

“All the work that we went through and now it’s just rubble,” Kahana said. “Yeah, well, we started from nothing. We’ll get it back up.”

Only one field on the property did not burn down. Kahana says it’s more of an advanced course, and a group that was supposed to come on Friday agreed to play there.

Outside the property, charred brush and trees and plumes of smoke were still visible.

Kahana estimates the fire will cause about a 60-percent loss in business.

“I don’t want to say we got a lick, but we’ll see,” he said.

Firefighters say the fire was contained to 100 acres and only one business reported damage.
