Hollywood A-listers gathered Monday night for the world premiere of Disney’s newest animated movie, “Moana.”
Polynesian culture took center stage at the event with special performances throughout the night, including a hula by Moana herself, Mililani native Aulii Cravalho.
“There are so many wonderful elements of this film,” she said. “First, it’s inspired by the Polynesian culture, my culture, and that blows me away.”
“It showcases a Polynesian culture, and it’s a Polynesian culture that hasn’t been showcased that much at all in films, certainly not to this extent,” said Dwayne Johnson, who voices Maui. “It was the number-one reason why I wanted to make the movie.”
“Moana” hits theaters nationwide on Nov. 23.
