The University of Hawai’I men’s basketball team returns to action on Friday, Nov. 18, when it takes on perennial power and 2016 NCAA Championship runner-up North Carolina. Tipoff is set for 8:00 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The game will serve as the nightcap of basketball triple-header at the arena as the Rainbow Wahine basketball team also hosts the Bank of Hawai’i Rainbow Classic.

UH is coming off a 2-1 showing in this past weekend’s Outrigger Resorts Rainbow Classic with all three games coming down to the wire. The ‘Bows suffered a 69-68 season-opening loss to SIU Edwardsville before bouncing back with a come-from-behind win over Texas State and a thrilling 64-63 nail-biter over Florida Atlantic in the ESPN College Hoops Tipoff Marathon.

Meanwhile, the Tar Heels enter the game ranked No. 5 in the Associated Press poll and fresh off a 93-67 home rout of Long Beach State on Tuesday night. After Friday’s game, UNC will head for the Maui Invitational, Nov. 21-23.

This will be the first meeting between the programs in more than two decades. The teams played each other three straight years from 1992-94, including the last meeting on Dec. 22, 1994 when the Tar Heels won, 88-76, during UH’s inaugural season in the Stan Sheriff Center.
