A Maui storage facility is on lockdown after a renter stumbled across what appeared to small, unexploded military ordnance.

The discovery was made at around 5:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, by a person renting a unit at Kihei Self Storage on Lipoa Street in Kihei.

Authorities say the person cleaning out the unit discovered the ordnance in a container left behind by the previous renter.

The storage facility was evacuated and police closed off the area.

The U.S. Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was notified and scheduled to fly to Maui.

Police continue to block off the building until they arrive.
