Kalihi mom-and-pop restaurant delivers Thanksgiving meals to homeless

Thanksgiving is typically a day spent with family.

But for at least one family, it’s also about sharing with those less fortunate.

Todd Matsumoto owns Matsumoto Okazuya and Restaurant on Gulick Avenue in Kalihi. On Thursday, he and family went through the neighborhood, offering dozens of turkey lunch plates to those in need.

“We usually do try to bring the food to some of the people that don’t want to go to the Blaisdell or to places where they’re giving out food,” he said. “Not everybody is as fortunate as other people, so for the less fortunate people, we like to try and make sure that they have something on Thanksgiving so we can spread the aloha.”

Matsumoto says it’s a great tradition and positive lesson he can share with his kids.
